Our Mission

Our Mission is to nurture the human spirit by enriching the lives of youth through musical excellence, helping them reach their fullest potential and live enriched lives through vocal music.


Our Vision

The individuals we serve will flourish as part of an internationally acclaimed organization that inspires personal development, celebrates diversity and fosters international goodwill. As advocates for the performing arts, we are partners with our community and with the world.

Iowa Youth Chorus is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing choral education, performance and touring opportunities for children ages 6 through 18.

The Iowa Youth Chorus offers four levels of choirs to meet the needs of talented and interested young vocal musicians. They include:

Primary Choir
Beginning Level - 6-7 year olds. The Primary Choir meets weekly in a music class format that includes music reading activities, basic singing skills, movement and song games. Primary Choir performs at Iowa Youth Chorus major concerts. [No audition required]

Children's Chorus
Beginning Level - 8-11 year olds. The Children's Chorus is our beginning level choir where children learn the fundamentals of vocal technique, music reading and performing skills. Rehearsals are weekly at one of seven locations: Ankeny, downtown Des Moines, West Des Moines, Newton and Grinnell. [Audition required]

Concert Choir
An intermediate level chorus for girls and boys, ages 10-14, that includes Chorale personnel. The girls and boys rehearse separately for a half-hour each week and jointly for 45 minutes. They perform 2 and 3 part music for treble voices that will develop music reading skills and vocal technique. [Audition required]

Chorale
Intermediate Level - 11-15 year olds. Chorale is the top treble choir in our choir school. This choir performs challenging repertoire in two, three and four parts and further develops music reading skills and vocal technique. [Audition required]

Chamber Singers
Advanced Level - 13-18 year olds. Chamber Singers is the international touring choir of the Iowa Youth Chorus. An elite group of mixed voices, Chamber Singers performs advanced choral literature of all styles and time periods. [Audition required]
