Nursery rhymes are an art form central to children's literature. All Together Now re-imagines favorite nursery rhymes and highlights traditional music that has survived the test of time. Share singing, movement and instrument playing with the whole family and help your child build a good foundation for music learning.
Family Packets include a CD, parent book and grooved rhythm sticks (Twist &Turn) or a bean bag (Nimble & Quick). One set of home materials for each enrolled family is required.

Family Music for Babies - Birth to 18 months

Take the first step toward bonding musically with your baby and enriching your family life with active music making. This class will increase your child's curiosity about music, help develop listening skills and a sense of beat and establish a foundation for singing and musical thought through bouncing, rocking
songs, peek-a-boo games and instrument exploration. The family packet helps enrich family life with active music-making at home.
Family Packet includes a CD, home activity book and a natural cloth pouch with rhythm sticks, a rattle and a colorful scarf.

Family Music for Toddlers:
Play with Me - 15 months to 3 yrs

Play with Me helps children bridge the natural connection between music and movement. The class features purposeful movement activities for coordination, body control and the pure joys of movement. Vocal play lays the foundation or singing and vocal development while focused listening enhances aural skills. Instrument exploration adds to the fun.

Cycle of Seasons: Wind Dancers - Ages 3 - 4

Celebrate your child's love of nature, growing independence and use of language through activities which focus on animals, the weather and the seasons. Classes develop listening, focused attention, imagination and self-expression through singing, chanting, creative movement, storytelling, musical games and instrument exploration.
Family packet includes two CDs with music and stories, 16 illustrated cards for listening games and a family activity book, all in a natural cloth pouch.

Music Makers: At Home in the World - Ages 4 - 5

Level One of our 3-year sequential program gives your child a solid music making foundation, focusing on children's fascination with nature and love of instruments. The class nurtures the child's tonal and rhythm aptitudes through singing, creative and structured movement, and coordination of body and voice. Instrument ensemble play enhances listening and builds self-discipline and social skills. Reading music is introduced in an age-appropriate way through graphic notation. This semester's units are My Home Place and Woodlands.
Family packet includes 2 CDs, 2 colorful folders, 2 family activity books, plus activity pages and notation game cards.

Music Makers: Around the World - Ages 5 - 6

Level 2 of our 3-year sequential program this class focuses on your child's fascination with all things new and different. Explore the music, stories, rituals and customs of the British Isles and help your child understand others. Building on the music-making foundation from Music Makers: At Home in the World, Around the World helps build skills in listening, singing, playing instruments as well as expressive movement and dance. Age-appropriate steps to develop music literacy include notation game cards and finding patterns in music notation.
Family Packet includes a CD, colorful folder, notation game cards, song pages and a viewfinder for discovering musical patterns.
Sibling Kit includes the folders, activity pages and notation game cards.

Primary Choir - Ages 6 & 7

Free class for Beginnings students!
Primary Choir is a non-auditioned choir for ages 6 & 7. Music skills are taught in a playful, yet structured atmosphere. Musical games build listening and music reading skills. Age-appropriate vocal techniques are also taught. Primary Choir participates in Iowa Youth Chorus major concerts.

Music Makers: At the Keyboard
75 minutes, last 15 minutes with parent or caregiver
Semester 1 - Ages 7 to 8 (Ages as of September 1, 2012) - Semester 1 of this 2-year sequence lays the groundwork for keyboard success. Children gain comprehensive music skills that benefit them no matter where their future interests lead: piano lessons, school band/orchestra or the Iowa Youth Chorus. In addition to time at the keyboard, the class features dancing, drumming, singing and composition.

Semester 3 - Ages 8 to 9
(Ages as of September 1, 2012) - Semester 3 refines the physical and aural skills developed in year 1. Your child will be introduced to familiar and new pieces as well as improvisation and composition. Playing by ear continues, but reading activities are more plentiful. Appropriate activities and sequencing in the curriculum allow your child to easily play in keys and meters usually reserved for more advanced students. Dynamics, articulation and expression markings make your results more musical than ever. (Keyboard semesters 1 and 2 are a prerequisite for this class.)

Refunds:
Requests for refunds must be made one week prior to the first class meeting. You will receive a refund of your
tuition minus a $20.00 processing fee. After the first class meeting a credit toward a future class will be
given, minus a $20.00 processing fee. There are no refunds for materials that have been ordered.
Family Packets and Sibling Kits:
The family packets are required. These home materials allow the activities first experienced in class to
continue at home. In this way, music making truly becomes a family activity that fosters family bonding and
fun and helps your child develop musically. Our sibling kits include all materials but the CDs and are
designed only for families with 2 children in the same class or for families that previously purchased a
family packet.
Weather Cancellation Policy:
If the West Des Moines and/or the Des Moines Public Schools are cancelled, Beginnings will cancel classes.
Afternoon and evening classes will be cancelled if the schools have early dismissal and/or cancel evening
activities. If possible, the class will be made up.
Photographs:
Occasionally, parents may wish to photograph their children during class, or we may take pictures for
promotional purposes. If you do not want photographs taken during your child's class, please notify us in
writing.
