About Beginnings / Our Teachers


Beginnings logo Our teachers have been with the Beginnings program since the late 1990s. They have strong backgrounds in education and music. Their devotion to the program coupled with their love of children and music, make our program what it is today.

Barb Klubal
Instructor since 1998

Barb is a graduate of Temple University in Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Music Education. She has been a member of the Des Moines Choral Society and currently plays lead drum with the Des Moines-based steel drum band "Tropical Steel". In addition to teaching all levels at the Iowa Youth Chorus Beginnings Program, Barb is a substitute music teacher in the Des Moines Public Schools. Barb and her husband live in Des Moines and have three grown sons.

Lori Lindberg

Lori is a graduate of Luther College with a BA in Elementary Education, concentration in music, and endorsement in early childhood. She taught preschool and kindergarten through the public schools for 13 years. Lori is a life long musician having studied voice and piano and is currently active in church and community choirs. Lori and her husband live in Clive and have three grown children.

Natalie Steenson

Natalie received her B.A. in music and religion from Coe College. She has been a director of various children, youth, adult and hand bell ensembles and currently directs the Primary Choir for 6-7 year olds at Iowa Youth Chorus. She is often a soloist for church and community activities and is involved in worship leading at her church. Natalie also provides educational outreach music programs as a member of Des Moines Metro Arts Alliance. She and her husband live in Des Moines and have two daughters.
